Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella announced on Monday that OpenAI’s ex-CEO Sam Altman will be joining Microsoft along with other members to lead a new advanced AI research team , days after the co-founder of ChatGPT was fired.
Nadella came to X to express Microsoft’s and OpenAI’s current relationship and the hiring of Sam Altman and Greg Brockman and stated;
We remain committed to our partnership with OpenAI and have confidence in our product roadmap, our ability to continue to innovate with everything we announced at Microsoft Ignite, and in continuing to support our customers and partners. We look forward to getting to know Emmett… — Satya Nadella (@satyanadella) November 20, 2023
Despite a major push by investors and negotiations to bring Altman back as the CEO of OpenAI, the board decided to stick with their decision. For Altman’s replacement, OpenAI’s board appointed former Twitch CEO and co-founder Emmett Shear to lead OpenAI.
Microsoft and Sam Altman have had a close relationship since the company integrated OpenAI technology into its services. Additionally, Microsoft has invested $10 billion in OpenAI since its launch, and with Altman’s appointment, it seems like the partnership will grow even more.
